SORE EYES (Conjunctivitis, Pink eyes, Red eyes)

What you can do:

  • If the condition is caused by a foreign body entering your eye.
  • Nothing, if the condition is due to allergy, which will clear up by itself. Antihistamine eye drops (anti-allergy medicine) may be used with doctor's advice.
  • Avoid direct contact with other people (e.g., shaking hands, using another persons towel) to prevent spreading the infection.
  • Consult a doctor, particularly if there is a pink eye epidemic in the neighborhood or your child's school; there is pain or pus discharge from the affected eye; or you wear contact lenses.

Prevention Tips:

When there is an epidemic of sore eyes:

  • Do not touch your eyes after having touch anything else (e.g., doorknob, handshake, paper bills, and coins).
  • Wash your hands with soap and water first.
  • Do not share towels or handkerchief.
  • Avoid crowded places.
