SNORING
Causes:
Vibration
of the soft palate due to a partial blockage of the air passage. The
blockage of the air way is usually caused by:
- Infection
(e.g., common cold, allergic rhinitis, enlarged adenoids, or tonsils).
- Congenital
defects (e.g., large tongue, a narrow airway opening).
- Loss
of tone in the muscles that keep the airway open.
- Obesity.
- Alcohol,
certain drugs, smoking.
- Growth
(e.g., polyps in the nose, tumor in the tongue).
What
you can do:
- Avoid
sleeping on your back. Snoring normally stops once a person turns
or is turned to his side.
- If overweight
reduce weight. Exercise regularly.
- Avoid
large meals before going to sleep.
- Avoid
alcohol.
- Avoid
taking or sleeping medicines.
- Consult
a doctor can do for you.
