Sinusitis
What
you can do:
- Consult
your doctor when the symptoms are felt for a prolonged period of time,
or when the symptoms become worse.
- Drink
plenty of fluids to help thin the mucus.
- If you
are a smoker, stop smoking. Smoking irritates the sinus lining thereby
causing it to be inflamed.
- Avoid
alcoholic beverage as this causes swelling of the nasal sinus membranes.
- Steam
inhalation will soothe the inflamed sinus cavities.
- Applying
a hot water bottle, hot or wet compress, or an electric heating pad
over the forehead or inflamed area can provide temporary relief.
- If possible
exercise as this helps reduce congestions by increasing nasal discharge.
Prevention
Tips:
- Avoid
smoking or drinking alcoholic beverages.
- Stay
away from allergens that trigger your allergies, e.g., food, pollens,
molds, dust or dander.
- Keep
your surrounding as clean and as dust-free as possible.
- Avoid
frequent swimming in the pools heavily treated with chlorine. Chlorine
can imitate the lining if the nose and sinuses.
